Friday evening 20/20 Cricket at Allan Border Oval
Friday evenings at AB: A 20:20 style social cricket evening aimed at 8-11yr olds at Allan Border Oval. 5.30pm – 7pm. All equipment is supplied and the timing allows all to attend the earlier Academy session at Balmoral Oval. With the music, BBQ and Bar in full swing, Friday evenings at AB is extremely popular. Get in early to avoid disappointment.
20/20 Fridays: Commence Friday 19th October 2018 and can be booked at:
The Mosman Cricket Academy Program: Friday afternoon at Balmoral Nets.
The Mosman Academy will again be run by Cricket Appeal headed by Ash Doolan. The program is a unique opportunity for junior players wishing to supercharge their cricket to engage with Mosman’s senior grade players and coaches. We are extremely pleased to have Ash back at Mosman as our 1st grade keeper.
Whilst not every junior player wants to progress to play Representative, NSW or Australian cricket, many just want to improve their batting, bowling fielding and game management skills so that they enjoy more success. Cricket Appeals coaches will work with them to see that this happens whilst keeping it fun.
The Academy details can be booked using the link below
Holiday Cricket Camps at Balmoral Oval: September/October school holiday camps are also run by Cricket Appeal and can be booked at:
Training is at Balmoral Oval on the following nights:
U9 and 10 – Tuesdays
U11 and 12 – Wednesdays
U13 and over – Thursdays
Academy – Fridays
NSJCA Weekend Cricket Programs U12 and above
As we did last season, we’ll be running skills assessments for those age groups we deem necessary. The skills assessment process will look at player performance stats as well as the results of batting, bowling and fielding skills assessments. The aim of this process is to ensure that players play in the age group and format most likely to benefit their cricket skills development. Players enjoy themselves more, develop faster and are more likely to continue playing in the future when they are placed in an appropriate skill level
Our Age Group coordinators will be in touch with all registered players/parents once assessment dates and locations have been confirmed.
In an attempt to get back to the glory days of women’s cricket at Mosman when we fielded 3 senior teams, we have been rebuilding from the ground up with a T20 Blast for Girls program running at Balmoral Oval on Friday nights and an U13 team playing in a girls only competition in the NSJCA.
The T20 Blast for Girls program is ideal for girls finding their feet with cricket and includes skills development coaching. If you are aged between 6 and 11 this is the cricket program for you! Bring your sister, your friends and classmates. This is the perfect program for Mums and Dads as many take advantage of the beach location to walk the dog, exercise or swim.
For girls with a more competitive spirit, the U11, U13 or U15 competitions in the NSJCA may be more suited to your needs. Played at various locations across the lower north shore on Saturday afternoons, this competition pits our girls against other local teams. 20 overs.
Coaching, Umpiring, Scoring and General Volunteering
Junior cricket is totally reliant on parent and caregiver volunteers for the many jobs that ensure that games go ahead. Mosman hopes and expects every junior cricket family to contribute in some way. Every team needs one or more coaches, umpires and scorers to share the load so expect to be asked.
Every team needs a manager to organise getting a team on the field on game days. This is primarily a communications role and works closely with the team coaches and the age group manager.
To encourage parents – Mums and Dads, to help in developing our players, the Club funds participation in the Level 1 coaching program run through CNSW. This takes 6hrs usually organised across two 3 hr sessions in and around Mosman. Every graduate of this course has gained new insights into ways in which players skills can be developed and nurtured. The course does not require any pre-existing cricket background.
Umpires carry the history of the game as expressed through the Laws of Cricket, in their hands – without them we do not have a game. Every junior team needs at least 2 qualified umpires or risks being penalised under NSJCA rules. The NSJCA runs umpiring courses in a single evening supplemented by an online course. Being a qualified umpire means you can be part of your child’s game even though you might never have played the game.
Every team needs at least 2 trained scorers. Again the NSJCA provides an excellent scoring course over the course of an evening to train parents. The Club also supplements this with additional guidance and mentoring. In additional to the traditional (old school) scorebook, a scoring app is also available for ipads and has proved popular with parents for its convenience.
There is no shortage of general jobs around that Club that we need help with. This includes running BBQs and the bar at Allan Border Oval and Balmoral, helping prepare junior grounds for play by putting out boundary markers and erecting the stumps and helping at events.
The Junior Development Committee which oversees junior cricket operations also has roles available for those parents that might wish to contribute to the administration of junior cricket. If you are interested, please contact Warwick Adlam – Chairman of the Junior Development Committee.
Mosman Cricket Shirts
Mosman U9 to U17 NSJCA teams take the field in official MCC playing shirts. Parents may purchase the shirt online as we hold most sizes in stock. We deliberately refrain from sponsors logos on the shirt so that they can be worn for more than one season.
This season we will change the style of the shirt to the same as the Senior teams - a lighter and more comfortable material, still in white. You can use last year's shirt. The shirts cost $40. Short sleeve will be available for the older age groups. U12 and above.
Mosman Sun Hats
Broad brimmed MCC sun hats are also available for sale and are recommended for younger age groups who may resist the application of copious amounts of sunscreen. The hats are $20.
We have secured a limited supply of Mosman hoodies. These will be available for sale before the start of the season. Kids and adult sizes available.
